June 23, 2020 Reorganization Meeting
The Lakota City Council held its reorganizational meeting on June 23rd, 2020, at the City Hall. Mayor Hooey called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m. All Council Members were present. Member Hess entered the meeting at 6:42pm. City employee Matt Herda was in attendance. Audience members were Kara Koski, Nancy Skogen and Jeff Russo.
Mayor Hooey called the meeting to order.
The council reviewed the primary election results as provided.
Member Vasichek made a motion to accept the election results, seconded by Member D. Mattern. On a roll call vote, all members voting in favor. Motion carried.
Mayor Hooey, Members Vasichek, D. Mattern and Solberg took their oath of office.
Member Vasichek made a motion to appoint Bill Solberg as the City Council President, seconded by Member R. Mattern. On a roll call vote, all members voting in favor. Motion carried.
Member Solberg made a motion to appoint Jim Vasichek as the City Council Vice President, seconded by Member D. Mattern. On a roll call vote, all members voting in favor. Motion carried.
Member Solberg requested Mayor Hooey to act on the appointed positions of City Superintendent and City Auditor. Mayor Hooey stated he would like to have a discussion with Matt Herda and will make the City Superintendent appointment at the July meeting.
Mayor Hooey stated he would like to get Water Operator Kim Burkland a decent raise as he is the rock of the utility department. Member D. Mattern stated that the council has increased employee Burkland’s wage dramatically over the last 5 years to get up to market wages. Auditor Vasichek stated employee Burkland’s current wage is $24.03/hr.
Mayor Hooey stated there are power lines behind Steve Smaage’s residence that need trimming. Employee Herda stated he will review the area and will trim where he can but hire out what he is unable to get to.
Member Hess entered the meeting at 6:42pm.
Mayor Hooey stated he would like to appoint Amie Vasichek as City Auditor.
Member Solberg made a motion to approve Mayor Hooey’s appointment of Amie Vasichek as City Auditor, seconded by Member Hess. On a roll call vote, all members voting in favor. Member Vasichek abstained. Motion carried.
Member R. Mattern made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Member D. Mattern.
Meeting adjourned at 6:46 p.m.
